8th Street Pier Redevelopment Presentation

This is the concept for the redevelopment of the 8th Street Plaza and was presented in a community meeting on March 8 at the Clermont City Center.

The unsafe condition of the existing 8th Street Pier forced its closure at the end of last year.   Clermont native and local architect Jeff Powell was asked to create a concept or “big idea” as the first step in deciding what could be done with the existing pier and how it could be used to connect the waterfront to downtown.

This presentation shows the concept plan and is the first step in developing a project that includes a docking facility for a maximum of 76 boats and eight jet-ski slips, a restroom, and a lakefront amphitheater.  There are also plans to develop the Meet Us in the Middle Plaza featuring an artistic monument to celebrate Clermont’s mid-point of Florida’s Coast-to-Coast trail. The nearly 250-mile trail links communities between St. Petersburg and Titusville and recognizes the economic impact on those communities.

Residents, business owners, boaters, lake lovers, and others shared their thoughts and concerns as well as expressed excitement that a redevelopment plan was underway.

The next steps include the following:

  • Gathering site data and information
  • Meeting with state agencies
  • Plan development
  • Budgeting and feasibility and
  • Implementation
